I may just be following too many blogs of people who don’t fall under the heterosexual category and thus uber sensitive to phrases used in a derogatory way to describe them, and I don’t know the exact situation the OP is referring to, but..

Also, yes, it’s referring to a specific incident but basically it’s a more general lesson. I think it’s useful to specifically talk about the queer scene because, like any other milieu/community/space, it has its own dynamics and addressing them specifically is more likely to get a result than just talking about white “people”.
